Many kinds of fairs are held in our country. Trade fairs are held to promote the sale of goods. The Kumbha is the biggest fair ever held anywhere except Varanasi. Though the fairs held in village areas are minor and small, yet they have much impact over the people. In Orissa we can see many fairs throughout the year. The fair at Paradeep on the eve of Viswakarma Puja is famous.
The fair continues for more than a week. The whole area becomes crowded. Sellers in large number come to sale their things from distant places. They make temporary shops cum residence. Sweets, textiles, stationeries, chitchats are very common. Many things are sold on the footpath.
Some
famous opera parties come to show their plays. Sometimes big circus, cinema
show, mina bazar, super sales comes on this occasion. The place of the fair is
overcrowded. Men, women and children from nearby villages come to enjoy the
fair. The image of Lord Viswakarma is worshipped in many places by various organizations.
People come to see and enjoy the grand decorations. Many things are bought and
sold. The local police and volunteers are busy in helping the people. Many
stalls are opened by the Paradeep Port authority and the state government. All
the employs and residents of Paradeep Port city become busy receiving and
entertaining their friends and relatives.
The fair of Vishwakarma puja at Paradeep is very important in this locality.
