What is a book fair:-
A book fair is a collation of book-shops. It is usually held in a big field. Different public companies open their stalls in the book fair. In the book fair one gets an opportunity to come across a variety of books. In the fair, the companies also offer concession. One can purchase books at concessional prices at a book fair. In a Book shop, there are limited books on a subject. But in a book fair one can get varieties of books on a particular subject. This is the great advantage of a book fair.
The value of books:-
The value of books is great. Books are great friends of men. Books are priceless treasures. It enriches our mind and expands our knowledge. Through books we came across the minds of the great authors. Books give us inspiration. They are also our guides, friends and teachers. Without books, our civilization will come to an end.
Different stalls:-
There are different book-stalls in a book fair. Some stalls sell religious books and some stalls sell scientific books. One can find children’s books, dictionaries, grammar books, story books novels, biographies, classical books and reference books in the different book-stalls of a book fair. Virtually the book-fair is a sea of books. We can dive into it and get different gems.
Cultural activities:-
In the book fairs cultural activities are also held. There are musical and dance programmes. Usually dignitaries are invited to preside over the function. Prizes are also given to great writers, poets and essayists. This encourages them to write more. The inaugural and closing ceremonies of a book fair are worth observing.

A book fair is meant to acquaint the reader with a large number of books. Carlyle, The great English thinker of 20th century has said, “A true university in our days is a collection of books.” A man without formal education can educate himself through a good library of books. A books fair helps the reader to purchase the books of his choice. The serene atmosphere of a book-fair generates reading habit. Now-a-days people are spending more time in watching TV than reading books. Watching TV is a great waste of time. It doesn’t enhance knowledge. Rather it makes the mind full. It curbs physical activities. So TV watchers become overweight and suffer from different diseases. TV also affects one’s eye-sight. So people must develop reading-habits. Reading exercises and develops casual readers into voracious ones. Book-fairs are indispensable in the modern age.
