1. What is an essay?
An essay is a systematic expression of what one thinks, feels, does and learns in organized prose. If it is written in a disjointed manner, it is not called organized prose. Although stories, fables and novels are organized prose, they do not serve the purpose of an essay; therefore, they are not essays. In stories, fables and novels, a number of characters are created and the ideas of the essay can be expressed in the conversations and actions of those characters; but in them, the characters become the main ones and the underlying ideas become secondary; but in essays, direct experience or incident takes the main place. To make the said ideas clearer, some true or fictional incidents may be used as examples.
An essay is a systematic expression of our thoughts, imagination, feelings, experiences, and learnings in organized prose, giving them a prominent place.
2. Organized prose for essays: -
Language and style are the main considerations for expressing the content in the essay. In the past, it was customary to write any essay in difficult language. Later, even if some essays were not written in simple Odia, difficult language and difficult style were adopted to express the deep philosophical and high-spirited content in the essay. Nowadays, in this era of mass literature, there is very little room for individual literature or group literature. Through very simple style and simple words, any essay can be written in Odia and its quality can be maintained. It has become a system for big and complex scientific ideas in English to be written in very simple English and for this reason many awards are announced. One of these awards is the 'Kalinga Award' given by the World Union. Pandit Nilakantha Das has succeeded in expressing difficult philosophical ideas in very simple Odia. In poetry too, complex philosophical principles and complex ideas have been beautifully expressed in simple Odia. For this, the Odia Bhagavat of Sri Jagannath Das is noteworthy.
Speaking about students, in my opinion, the level of Odia at which high school students speak or write letters is quite satisfactory and if written in a pure manner, any essay, be it simple or complex, can be written beautifully. It is also better not to have a complex or difficult style of language. Inserting many short sentences or writing excessively long sentences makes the language complex and difficult.
3. Sequence in Essay Writing:-
The most important characteristic of an essay is to present the content in a systematic manner; therefore, an essay has a system of information tables and paragraphs (points and paragraphs) to present the ideas and context in a systematic manner. It should not be forgotten that every essay must contain description, details and thought. Otherwise, no essay will be considered a worthy essay, but the essay in which the majority of the required or majority is present, that essay is considered in that category.

Descriptive essays describe any scene or object. Essays written about humans, elephants, horses, mountains, seas, oceans, vehicles, peas, and Taj Mahal views, etc. are called descriptive essays.

A biography or an account of an event falls under the category of descriptive essays. Essays like the autobiography of an airplane, the famine of the Navy, the Lisbon earthquake, the poet Radhanath, Tenzing Norke, etc. are descriptive essays.
Reflective Essays:-
Life-philosophy, scientific-thought, logical and problematic essays fall under the category of reflective essays. Essays on the basis of qualitative and quantitative essays also fall under this category. The great future of students lies in their essay writing. The more a student improves in essay writing, the greater a person he will become in the future. The speeches of the people who give useful speeches on earth are all essays. What Sir Isaac Newton has written about the force of gravity is an excellent essay. The long letter that the late Nehru wrote to various leaders about the Delhi-Peking Tunnel is a beautiful essay. The report that the Prime Minister gives to the government about the situation on the battlefield is a strong essay. 7. Knowledge and thinking for essay:-
Students need to increase their knowledge and e-scope to write essays. To increase their knowledge, students should read many magazines every day. Nowadays, many magazines are published on agriculture, industry, small savings, rural development, cooperation, social science, physical science, general science, politics and literature. Many things are published in them about various problems of the country, foreign countries and the world. For the growth of knowledge, students should make reading magazines a regular habit. They should read appropriate books after consulting their teachers.
They can make their own personal library of old and new magazines.
Students need to think about various problems or concerns. This will increase their thinking power. Thinking about any subject or problem with the aim of developing their own unique opinion or unique argument and writing down their opinion with their unique argument will increase the thinking power of students. This can be done on everything from ordinary daily small situations to situations in the village, city, country, foreign countries and the world.
8. Some related tips for writing essays:-
- The letters in the essay should be as beautiful as possible. The words should be spaced evenly everywhere and the lines should be straight and spaced evenly from each other everywhere.
- Good paper, good ink and good pen are necessary for writing essays; because even if these are not good, they will get dirty. As a result, the essay will not be written well. Therefore, the tools should be properly used to make the writing beautiful, the mind comes to mind and the essay should be good.
- It is better to write the essay first in Rough Khata and then in Fair Khata. Even when writing in Rough Khata, good paper, good ink and good pen are required. The purpose of writing in Rough Khata first is that the deductions made due to changes required while writing the essay, when written in Fair Khata, are removed and Fair Khata remains as a permanent account. Of course, this principle is not applicable when writing in the laboratory; but Fair Copy helps a lot in preparing for the essay before the examination.
- The essay should be written according to the requirements of the questions asked by the students; that is, the essay should be written to the point. For example, ‘newspaper’ and ‘newspaper reading’ are not the same thing. In the first, all aspects of newspaper writing will have to be discussed; but in the second, various aspects of newspaper reading will have to be discussed.
If other aspects of newspaper writing find some place in the second, it will be only in a very minor way. Similarly, ‘field library’ and ‘need for field library’ are not the same thing. ‘Need for military education’ and military education in student life are not the same thing; therefore, students should understand the question thoroughly and start writing essays accordingly.
