          Terrorism is the act of spreading terror to achieve political goal. Terror is spread through violence. Terrorists also threaten people of Government of achieving their purpose which is often illegal. For these reasons the "Al-Quaida" of Afganistan, "L.T.T.E." of Srilanka, "Maoists" of Nepal, "Jase-Mahammad", "Lasker-E-Toiba and "J.K.L.F." of Pakistan and "Hamas" of Palestine etc. are declared as terrorist organizations.

            Now, there are about 150 small and big terrorist organizations in India. The methods of all of them are almost the same. They frighten people through mass murders, sabotage, bomb-explosions, kidnapping for ransom etc. The terrorists assassinate leaders and kill those officers who oppose their evil deeds. Terror means extreme fear. The terrorist create extreme fear in the minds of people through these nefarious activities.

          Terrorists first came to Punjab from Pakistan in the 70s and 80s. They were supplied arms and ammunitions by the Pakistan government. Sant Bhindrenwala gave them shelter in the golden temple of Amritsar. They also remained hidden in several "Gurudwars". Their demand was a separate Khalistan state. They spread an atmosphere of terror in entire Punjab. To control them "Operation Blue Star" was started by India drove the terrorists out of the golden temple and seized a lot of arms and ammunitions. Bhindrenwala and a large number of terrorists were killed. In this way the Khalistani agitation was subdued.

Kashmir problem:-

          The most active terrorists are now operations in Jammu and Kashmir. Their demand is to separate Kashmir from India. For this purpose they are terror in Kashmir valley. The most dangerous terrorist organizations are "lasker-E-toiba", "Hurriyat conference" and "J.K.L.F." They also helped by the Pakistan government and the Talibans of Afganistan. It is suspected that they are supplied AK 47 rifles by the Chinese. They kill people indiscriminately, throw bombs in bazaars and Government offices and kidnap people. They employ hired killers to eliminate the Kashmir pundits. They also try to run a parallel Govt. in Kashmir valley. In the recent past they were involved in the bombing near Kashmir assembly, murders on our parliament premises and violence in the Akshardham temple of Gujarat. The terrorists think that by spreading terror they will be able to liberate Kashmir. Kashmir is a part of India. The people of India will save it giving their blood. No power on earth will be able to take away Kashmir us.

North-Eastern terrorists:-

          There are some organizations who spread terror in the North-eastern side of India. They are ULFA, NSCN, MPLF and NDFB. These organizations are aided by Miyamar, Bangladesh, and China. They want to separate Assam, Nagaland, Manipur and Bodoland from India.

Naxalite:-

          The naxalites have a different aim. Their targets are the Landlords, Govt. officers and the police. They demand land for the adivasis and a separate state for them.

Mafia:-

There are some unorganized terrorists in India also. The Mumbai mafia is one of them. Their aim is to extort money from the firm stars, business tycoons and builders. They frequently kill them who don't obey command.

LTTE:-

The terrorists of Srilanka are known as L.T.T.E. Their aim is to create a separate Tamil state. They are in collusion with the sandal-wood dacoit Virappan of Satyamangalam forests of Karnatak and Tamilnadu.

WTC:-

          Recently the terrorists did a job which stunned the whole world. They destroyed the World Trade Centre of New York on 11th September, 2001. The 110 storeyed building was completely destroyed by airplane-turned-missiles. After this event the Americans became conscious of the world-terrorism. They found out that this was the handiwork of Al-Quaida of Afganistan whose chief is Osman-Bin-Laden. The Americans waged war against Afghanistan to capture Laden, but they haven't been successful so far.

India's fight with terrorists:-

          India is bleeding daily due to terrorists. Almost everyday some innocent people are murdered in Kashmir valley. Our soldiers are trying their utmost to control the terrorists. Therefore, the terrorists are targeting the soldiers too. India wants to settle the Kashmir issue through bilateral talks with Pakistan.

Conclusion:-

           We mustn't think that the citizens have no role in controlling terrorism. They must be alert, law abiding and brave. They must not be afraid of the terrorists. They must come out to help the police and security personnel in finding out their hideouts. The Govt. must be very vigilant about this. The informers must be well protected and suitably rewarded. The security personnel must be supplied with sophisticated weapons. Besides that the Govt. must try to imbibe nation spirit among the citizens. We must always remember- "United we stand, divided we fall".
