WHY I AM LEARNING ENGLISH

Introduction

    English has become the global language. Now-a-days it is the official language of the most of the countries of the world. Even English is taught in Japan, Russia, China and many other countries whose mother tongue is not English. The English people ruled India up to 1947. It was the official language of India during the British raj. Now-a-days it is also used in Government transactions and court proceedings. So English has much importance in modern India.

Education

    In higher studies, English is the medium of instruction. Almost all the science books are written in English. The technical books are also written in English. If one wants to get university education, he is bound to be proficient in English.

Computer language

    It will not be wrong to name this age as the age of computers. Information technology has made great strides from the beginning of this century. Website, E-mail, Net etc. are new terms associated with information technology. The composition of letters for book-printing has become out of date. Its place is taken over by DTP and computers. The subjects of computer science and Information Technology are taught in English only. If one wants to learn computer science, he must be well-versed in English. Communication with the world

    As English has become a global language, its importance has gone up. If one wants to go abroad for higher studies he should know English. To carry on trade and commerce in foreign countries, the knowledge of English is essential. All the countries of the world today follow the English calendar The New year begins from the First day of January.

A great language

    English is one of the great languages of the world. The English literature is very vast. Great writers, poets and philosophers have written a lot of books in English. They include Shakespeare, Dickens, Tennyson, Wordsworth, Goldsmith, Bernard Shaw, Bertrand Russel, arlyle, Rojer Bacon etc. The works of great Philosophers like Voltire Tolstoy, Kant, Schopenhour, Deuson, Marx are translated into English. In India we can read German and French books through English translations only.

Window to knowledge

    English can be called a window to modern knowledge. We can read the theories of Newton, Einstein. Aristotle, Plato and Euclid through English. If we want to keep pace with the advances made in the field of science, technology and health-care, we have to be well-versed in the English language.

Conclusion

    I am learning English keeping in view the above-mentioned points. My views can be enumerated briefly as follows: (i) English is an international language.

(ii) English literature is very vast and rich.

(iii) Many great writers have written books in English.

(iv) English is essential for scientific, judicial and informative knowledge.

(v) It is an window to the vast panorama of knowledge.
