USES AND ABUSES OF SCIENCE 

Introduction:-  Now we are living in the age of science. Science has changed our lives. But in the very remote past our primitive ancestors suffered a lot. They were living like savages. They were wandering here and there without any shelter. They did not know how to make fire and cook food. They did not know how to speak or how to read and write.
Uses of science:-  At the dawn of civilization we developed a scientific outlook. With the help of science we made observations and experiments. We discovered the relationship between a cause and its effect. We discovered the secrets of nature. We developed the situation to such an extent that the wonders of science are seen everywhere in our life. We are no longer helpless toys in the hands of nature. We have conquered the forces of nature. Now we are the masters of land, water and air. We are searching for other worlds in space. Everything has been possible by the progress of science. Science has given us many new things. It has given us physical comfort and safety. It has taught us how to fight against diseases. It is responsible for our technical and engineering skill, It has given us plenty and prosperity. Science has improved the means of transport and communication.
Abuses of science:- Electricity is the greatest wonder of science. It has made our daily life more comfortable. It lights our homes, streets and drives our machines. Telegraph, telephone, wireless, television, radio, cinema combine pleasure and profit. We can send our messages to the far corners of the world. Science has shortened time and distance. The world today looks like a global village. Science has proved a boon for farmers. They are able to grow bumper crops in agriculture and fisheries. The art of printing is a great gift of science. We have got lot of books, newspapers and magazines to read and increase our knowledge. Science has removed narrowness of mind and superstitions. It has reduced manual labour and has given us leisure. It is at the root of all progress of mankind. The recent discovery of atomic energy brings promise of greater benefits.
Conclusion:-  Modern man has begun to abuse his scientific knowledge. Invention of atom-bomb is a burning example. Bad people are adultering food, medicines and other things. The industrial plants and factories are polluting Jand, air and water. Abuse of science will lead to destruction of mankind.
Science can be used both for good and for evil. Abuses of science can be checked by creating a strong public opinion all over the world. It man makes the right use of scientific knowledge he can change the earth into a paradise.
