Examinations are held in schools and colleges. Generally, students appear at two examinations in a year. These are 1st terminal and second terminal or Annual Examinations. Public Examinations are most important. The High School Certificate Examination is one of the most important public examinations. The examination hall presents a peculiar scene.
Before the examination begins the students with their identifying teachers come to the notice board where the roll numbers and the numbers of the room assigned to them are mentioned by the center superintendent. They know their places according to their roll numbers. While all the students wander on the verandah. The sincere students remember their lessons. When the warning bell rings the doors are opened. The candidates enter into the hall and sit on their respective seats. The invigilators come with question papers and examination papers. There are two invigilators in one hall. They distribute the khatas among the candidates and instruct them to write their roll numbers, subject and date etc on the khatas. When another bell rings they distribute the question papers.
The candidates read their question papers with all care and attention. The atmosphere of the hall becomes grave. There is pin drop silence. The candidates have no time to raise their heads. They write answers carefully. Some candidates take the help of copies to answer their papers. Some of them are caught red-handed and are expelled. The bearer brings water for the candidates. The invigilators give additional papers. After the scheduled time is over a bell rings and khatas are collected. Students wait for another sitting.
