Social Service means ‘The service of the Mankind and the society without any personal gain. The people who always think for the betterment of the society and work to improve the condition of the society without any profit are called social servants. They are welcomed everywhere. Social service is a noble quality. The main aim of social service is to do good for the society and its people.
Social service has a great importance in the life of a man because he lives in the society. He learns speech, manners and many other things in his society. He earns his livelihood in the society. Society gives proper protection to his life and property. Everyone should serve the society to the best of his capacity. Social service is helpful in removing the wants and miseries of men. It enables a person to rose above his selfish interests. It gives an attitude of love and sympathy for one’s fellowmen. Service to mankind is service to the Almighty. He blesses him who serves the society.
India is a country of villages. Most of villagers are poor, illiterate. Many superstitions and blind faiths prevail in our society.
We can help the poor, the needy, the crippled and handicapped. The people in rural areas require education, good health, better houses, good roads. We can literate them to cast off their superstitions and blind faiths. We also can try to remove untouchability. The students can do a lot in this respect. They can work better than others in the society. During the long vacations they can teach the poor illiterate people. They can clean dirty ponds, repair roads, give proper guidelines about good health, hygiene and sanitation. They can persuade the people to give up drinking. They can serve the people in the time of flood, cyclone and other natural calamities.
Social service is no doubt a great virtue. The well being of the society means the well being of its individuals. All should do social service as it is a good quality and it brings peace in life.
