The cow is a well-known useful domestic animal. It is a quadruped beast. It is seen all parts of the world.
The cows are of many colours. We can see white, red, black and
mixed-colour cows. The body of the cow is bulky. It has two horns, a long face,
two eyes, two ears, a nose, a mouth. It's eyes are back. It has only eight
teeth on her lower jaw. There are no tooth on its upper jaw. It has a long tail
with a tuft of hair at the end. It has four hoofs at the end of her four legs.
Its body is covered with furs. It grazes green grass. It eats straw, grams,
leaves and grains and drinks water, rice water and gruel. It lives in
a shed.
Cow's milk is very nutritious. It is a delicious food for the children and diet for the sick people. We can get curd, cheese, butter and ghee from its milk. We make many kinds of sweets from the milk. The farmers use cow dung as a rich manure. Medicines are made from its urine.
Cow's son becomes bullock and pulls the bullock cart, helps the
farmer in ploughing. After death also the cow is useful to us. Combs, holders,
playthings are made of its horns. Her hoofs are made into glue. Shoes, bags and other things are made out of its skin. Her bones turn into manure.
The cow is the saviour of our life. Hindus worship the cow as
Go-mata.
