ESSAY on DIWALI
(Introduction, Celebration, Conclusion)
Diwali is a Hindu festival. It is known as Dipawali or festival of
lights. Generally it falls in the month of October.
Diwali has a religious background. People celebrate it in the memory of Ram's home coming after he had killed Ravan. Another legend says
that, Ram offered his 'Shradha' to his father while he was staying in
Panchabaati jungle. Hence the Hindus has been observing this day as a festival of
lights. They call out the names of their fore fathers lighting the dried stems
of jute plants.
Infact Diwali is a festival of great rejoicing. People put on new
clothes. Light earthen lamps, candles in rows in front of their houses, worship
Goddess Laxmi and offered prayers for success and prosperity. Businessman treat
this day as the first day of their business. New registers are opened. They
collect their credit dues. Shops are decorated. People receive gifts and they
also give the same to their friends. Rich people distribute sweets and new
clothes among the poor men. In many places people worship goddess Kali.
People display fire works of various sorts. The who sky glitters
and the atmosphere resound with the sounds of crackers and bombs. This year I
celebrate Diwali at Cuttack. I went to see the festival of light all over the
town.
Diwali is a very amusing festival. It has some scientific value.
People believe that harmful worms and insects are destroyed in the lamps
burning.
