Your Birthday

Introduction:-

I was born to a lower-middle-class family on the 1st January of 1985. My parents have ever been very particular about observing my birthdays over meticulously. Since my birth, they have been regularly doing so every year. But I am unable to recollect the events of my infancy and early childhood. but in the state of my later childhood I could know that my parents had been observing my birthdays ever since. Now I have reached my boyhood, and every year. I am observing my birthday in which my parents are playing a very big role.

My feelings on my (your) birthday:-

On my birthday, my joy knows no bounds. because I know that it is a celebration in which I am the central figure and all eyes are set on me, and that I am the king of the occasion.

How it is observed:-

Quite early in the morning of my birthday; I finish up all my morning-ablutions including my holy bath. I put on a set of new attire purchased for me in occasion of my birthday observance. Then I go to the temple, and say my prayer to the deity on the holy shrine. After paying Dakhina to the temple-priest, I came back home. Presently another priest comes to my home and prepares a fire-offering called 'Homa' near which I sit on a mat or carpet. The priest chants some rituals and confers his blessings on the throwing some holy Arua rice on my head. Thereafter the fortune-teller known as Nahaka comes to my house. he sits and studies my horoscope. He announces my age and many good things that he finds in it.

Then I go to the kitchen and sit on a wooden seat (pidha) for eating. I eat different kinds of cake, curry and khiri with great satisfaction. These items are specially made for my birthday celebration. My parents and other elders in my family and my elders in the neighborhood sit for the feast and eat sumptuously and talk among themselves about me and my future. They seem quite happy and joyous over my birthday. In the evening the Satyapira Puja and Pala held in front of my house and many people come to sit near-about to see are hear the Pala.

Greetings and presents I received:-

In occasion of my birthday I receive many letters of greeting from my friends with whom I read in the same class. My relatives send to me their letters of blessing. My maternal uncle, known as Mamu, sends a set of good dress for me.

Significance of celebrating birthdays in general:-

I observe my birthday and likewise many other people observe their birthday. Observance of birthday has a great significance on doubt, for one whose birthday is observed and for his parents too. Our birthday celebration makes us conscious of our age and tells us in a silent voice that so many years have passed away from our span of life. This makes us thoughtful and we make stock-taking of our bygone activities, and chalk out proper program-me for our future.

Conclusion:-

The birthday observance is a great thing in a man's life. Though he is quite merry over it, he should be seriously thoughtful to know about the year going out and the year to come. I, too, on my birthday, think what I have done in the outgoing year and what I shall do in the next.
